Hike, Scotland, Loch Maree

Where

We explored the trail from the car park on the A832 on the southwest shore of Loch Maree. This is a section of the main wood at Coille na Glas Leitire (wood of the grey slope) on Beinn Eighe. Some of the trees here are thought to be around 350 years old, although sadly most of that generation was felled to make ammunition boxes for WW2.

The woods here are considered to be “temperate rainforest” and are quite distinct from most of the other pinewoods in drier parts of the Highlands.

In addition to these magnificent woods, this was our first introduction to the Torridon mountains. Later that day we ventured south and west through Kinlochewe towards Torridon itself.
