Ride - Scotland, Glen Ferrick and the Finlets
Where
This is my second trip to this most easterly growth on the ancient pinewoods in Scotland. My first trip was in January of this year. I rode mostly around Glen Ferrick in the eastern half of the forest. The riding here is pretty straight-forward. The tracks are all pretty wide and mostly gravel. They can be steep-ish in places but there’s nothing technical going on so it’s a case of getting in a decent gear and just staying on the move.
This forest exhibits pretty characteristic undergrowth of heather and blaeberries in abundance. On the lower slopes the density of birch is greater than pine but the former disappears pretty quickly with a bit of altitude. For the avoidance of doubt, the heather at this time of year is just spectacular.
The pines on the upper slopes are pretty dense and consequently a bit tall and skinny.

Gear & Nutrition
No real surprises to nutrition and clothing. Unfortunately my high gears started to knock about 75% of the way through the ride. I tries to fix but no joy. Back to the mechanic in Banchory tomorrow.
