Pottery - wood firing

We have continued our experiments with wood-fired pottery in which Mary throws pots and I play with fire.

The two photos below show the start and finish for one pot a couple of days ago.  The pot started in the LHS picture positioned at about 5 0'clock in the arrangement.  The colored stuff is salt combinations intended to give color in a reducing environment.  The post had been fired once already with limited color success and just some browns from the smoke.  The RH picture shows what happened after the firing...interesting reds, blues and greys surrounded by solid black.

Most of the pots from that firing were just blacks and browns so we decided to try again.  Starting position shown in the LH picture where the two pots of interest are placed in the middle.  The middle picture below shows the pot that started at 3 o'clock.  Note how the jet black was changed to black, greys and reds.  The RH picture below started at 9 o'clock and was completely black and dark brown.
