Ride - Scotland, Glenfernate, Perth and Kinross
Where
Ride start on OL52 at 052638, just west of Straloch.
Glenfernate isn’t considered by most of the writers on the subject to be a Mounth Pass. I’m surprised by that because it is not steep and has ample grazing especially towards the bottom. However, in The Mounth Passes, Graham Marr describes how drovers using Glen Tilt would have headed east into Glenfernate to avoid the narrow and steep section of Glen Tilt south of the Falls of Tarf.
My ride started on the access road to Glenfernate Lodge just to the west of Straloch. The lower parts of the road are surfaced but after a mile or two become rough gravel. The road follows the Allt Fearnach up the glen, crossing back and forth by bridge at various places. I cycled up to approximately Cnapan Liath at 006762 before I started descending towards Glen Tilt.
