Ride - Scotland, Black Mount
Protective mothers. My day was determined by protective mothers. Dear reader will see from the route map below that I started out on the track to the south of the Water of Tulla intending to cross over the bridge further up and continue on the other side until I reached the Crannach woods. However, I couldn’t immediately locate the trail past Achallader farm and was in the process of trying to figure out where to go with the help of the children living there when I encountered their mother. She wasn’t so happy to see me and politely but persistently essentially told me so. She finally somewhat relented and pointed me in the direction of the track I was looking for but let me know that the adult cows were congregated around the gate because their calves had been taken away that morning. Sure enough, I could see that a small herd of cows were densely (and sadly) packed around the gate looking for their calves. One way or another, protective mothers were changing the course of my day. I reversed course and rode the track on the other side of the river.
Where
The Black Mount woods are broken into three sections. Crannach, the section I rode to, is quite accessible on the southern bank of the Water of Tulla. Doire Darach, which I drove to, is easily reached on the southern shore of Loch Tulla. Gleann Fuar is more remote and I didn’t have time to attempt that one today.

Gear and Nutrition
SurPug gears working well with their new rear cassette.
I used the Nikon Coolpix P900 for most of the pictures today. I’m getting better with that camera but need to learn more and do better Figuring out how to make it even easier to get it in easily in and out of the waterproof saddle bag will help.
