Ride - Valley Forge, PA

A very easy, short ride to clear out the cobwebs and try to be productive. The trails are still pretty hard with the frost and have about an inch of dry powder on their surfaces. These conditions make for very easy riding. There are occasional patches where the trails are exposed to the sun and in those the snow and top quarter inch or so of the trail has melted and is messy. There are also a couple of spots where large, exposed roots run perpendicular to the trail and they can be a challenge where they coincide with turns or particularly steep ascents.

At the section of the Schuylkill by the new I422 bridge, the surface ice is piling up along the banks leaving a slow-moving ponderous middle channel.

Along by the berm, the usually-flooded sections are frozen and mainly navigable in a way that they were not a month or so ago. I went through the ice in a couple of narrow connection sections into about four inches of water.

There needs to be a picture of a bike every season so here’s one for a snowy winter-scape.
