Camping - Saturday post ride
When I camp and ride I like to take some time to explore explore a little. After my ride on the Allegrippis trails this morning I cleaned up and headed into Huntingdon, PA. I was last there about five years ago after riding the trails in Rothrock State Forest. Back then I had lunch at Boxers with a beer but otherwise didn’t find anything else to visit. The town seemed very quiet and past it’s prime. This time I visited the bike store and had lunch with a beer at Boxers. Given the online excitement over the Allegrippis trails I imagined Huntingdon might have become something of an outsider young persons hangout. It hasn’t and it still seems quiet and past it’s prime.
Naively I also thought that the Susquehannock camp site would contain more trendy young folk. I have to conclude that for all their talk of loving the environment, young trendies are not spending their time out in the country mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, boating or doing anything remotely associated with the environment they worship. Judging by the people I see here and more generally when I get out and about, the people who spend their time communing with nature drive pickup trucks and SUVs hauling trailers or packing tents.
I am more and more convinced that people who shout about the so-called environment understand it only in theory and in the abstract. They have no practical, relevant personal experience of our world outside their wealthy city and suburban lifestyles.
Here are pictures from inside my new luxury riding base.
