Getting the timing right

Gardening may be more like comedy than I realized (at least my gardening...!).  Much of what we enjoy is determined by the timing of the thing.  The emerging splendor in the garden and the woods happens because of our efforts last year and the years before that.  Given enough time we can figure out what works where (light, water and varmints like deer) , we can remove the things we don't like (weeding and pruning), repeat the things we do like (build, pave, plant and transplant) and, most importantly, the soil can improve with mulching and plants can establish themselves and thrive.  Most of our activity gets concentrated into two big productive seasons, spring and fall leaving the rest of the year for sitting back and enjoying (summer) or wishing it were warmer (winter).

Much of our activity today revolved around watering recent plantings, moving large pot plants from indoors to outdoors and cutting back stands of bamboo that grew up last year and are blocking views.

The Cercis look good at this time of year.  I like the way this one blooms on larger branches.  Their effect on the longer view can be seen through the archway leading into the garden.  Pink flowere at the top of the arch mark the location of the two Cercis at the edge of the woods

I can't remember what this think is called but the tiny flowers show well even with the iPhone camera.
