State Game Lands 176

State Game Lands are owned and managed by the PA Game Commission.  The Commission is tasked with managing PA's wild birds, animals and their habitats for current and future generations and the properties are managed with the objective of providing those habitats and allowing for hunting and trapping.  I like these areas for riding because they day-trippers avoid them (no easy parking or amenities) and because the riders, hunters and trappers who do come here are serious observers of nature.

The terrain in this particular part of the world is pretty flat and easy to ride.  The ascent shown below was probably the steepest that I encountered on my ride.

The ground was mostly easy to ride as the snow-melt appears to have easily been absorbed by the soil.  I suspect it seems that way also because the trails are so lightly ridden that there are not bald or sunken patches where water can gather.  I'd say that 80% or so of the recent snow has melted although it is still very dependent to the angle of the ground in relation to the sun's rays as you can see below.
