Day in the garden

The Head of the Charles Regatta is being held in Cambridge Massachusetts this weekend.  About six years ago on this same weekend, Emma competed in that race and on our way back to PA we stopped off at the breeder in CT and picked up our new puppy.  She turned into the six foot blonde you see today.

I spent most of today in and around the garden clearing leaves off the patio, cutting the grass, carting prunings off to be shredded, hauling logs up the hill to be stored closer to the house and taking some junk from the garage to the town dump.  It was one of those days when just enough was achieved to be satisfying but not too much as to be physically tiring.

I’m writing this as I sit in my favorite chair at the bottom of the garden with a glass of raspberry melomel and a Montechristo White.  The latter is one of my regulars and the former is a 2017 vintage.  Unfortunately 2017 wasn’t a good year.  I made some rookie mistakes with the nutrient additions and aeration and suffered from off-tastes that required remedial action. The remedial action in turn rendered the finished article drinkable but thin and not particularly enjoyable.
