Scolty Hill
Scolty Hill is my go-to evening spot and weekend ride when I don’t want to venture far. It is located south of Banchory just over the river Dee. Most of the marked trails, and certainly all of the lower ones, are gravel tracks suitable for trucks and landrovers. The good single-track gets better further up the hill. From what I’ve seen the single-track appears to be pretty well used and doesn’t seem to get much, if any, maintenance.
There is a 20m tall tower monument at the top of the hill. It was originally built in 1840 as a memorial to General William Burnett who fought alongside Wellington. The tower was restored in 1992 and a viewing platform added.
